Sri Sarvamangala Nagar Residents’
Association, Chitlapakkam celebrated its 17th Anniversary on the evening of 27-02-2016.
Chief Guest, Shri T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Guests of Honour - Shri C. Rajendran, former Member
of Parliament, Shri N.C.Krishnan,
Chairman, St. Thomas Mount Panchayat Union, Shri R. Mohan, President and Shri K.
Veerasamy, Vice-President, Chitlapakkam Selection Grade Town Panchayat,
respectively, Shri D. S. Sivasamy, Additional Director (Retd.), Municipal
Administration, Shri R. Ravindran, Joint Secretary, Vivekananda Education
Trust, Shri P. Viswanathan, Convenor, Co-ordination Committee of Welfare
Associations of Chitlapakkam graced the occasion. The other Guests of Honour on
the occasion, Shri R. Varadarajan and Shrimathi Geetha Varadarajan, parents of
late Major Mukund Varadarjan, Ashok Chakra (Posthumus) were also present.
In memory of Late Major Mukund Varadarajan, AC, who sacrificed his precious
life in the service of our Motherland, his parents Shri R. Varadarajan and
Srimathi Geetha Varadarajan were honoured. Shri R. Varadarjan, in his reply
thanked the Association for its noble work and felt proud to be amongst such
people.
A student with best proficiency in the
Nagar was presented with Freedom Fighter “Bharathamani” Shri P. N. Srinivasan
Memorial Award instituted by his family members. First three top ranking
students of 10th and 12th Standard in the Nagar were awarded with cash prizes, sponsored by Shri S. Venkataramani Family. 140 prizes to
winners and participants in the Annual Competitions in various events conducted
by the Association in 2016 were distributed by the Chief Guest and Guests of
Honour.
A Power Point Presentation on the
activities of the Association followed by cultural programmes by residents and
their children included Bharatanatyam, Folk and Western Dances, Sloka recital,
Carnatic music and Light music were well appreciated by the gathering. A drama
focusing on the ill effects of Usage of Plastic and facts which are Environment
friendly was enacted by the women members of the Association was the highlight
of the programme.
Earlier, Shri R. Venkatraman, President of the
Association welcomed the gathering. Shri M. Ravi, Secretary thanked the
Government in plying Share Autos and Small Buses in the Chitlapakkam area, providing barbed fence to Sembakkam Lake at a
cost of Rs.10 Lakhs, reconstructing the
broken weir to the Sembakkam Lake at cost of Rs.30 Lakhs and commencing the work of installation of
Electrical Sub-Station to Chitlapakkam. He lamented that the fence provided to the
Lake was dismantled in some places and the drawal of water from Sembakkam Lake from
the giant well which has started again even before the commencement
of Summer Season, the act of which may again be cause for severe water scarcity
to the residents living around Sembakkam Lake and requested for immediate intervention to stop drawal of water from the
Lake. He has reiterated the request for desilting Sembakkam
and Chitlapakkam Lakes to protect ground water in Chitlapakkam, including Under
Ground Drainage Scheme to Chitlapakkam, not to increase the height of the roads
while in its relaying, widening of Chitlapakkam – Sembakkam Main Road and construction
of a reading room near Park area of the Nagar.
Hon. Minister in his reply informed
that the success of the Association is active participation of women and
promised that the requests put forth by the Association will be looked into. He
announced that a street in Tambaram area is being named after Late Major Mukund
Varadarjan for which orders of Government have been obtained. Attracting larger crowds particularly ladies
is the success of the Association said, Shri C. Rajendran, former M.P. Shri R. Ravindran, Joint Secretary,
Vivekananda Educational Trust in his address hailed the good work of the
Association and informed that Late Major Mukund
Varadarajan would be adopted as Hero of the ”Kshethropasana” Vivekananda
Vidhyalaya at Sriperumbudur which is to be commenced shortly and invited Shri
R. Varadarajan for its inaugural function. The good work of Association with
active co-operation of women was appreciated by Shri D. S. Sivasamy. Shri P. Viswanathan, in his address
congratulated the Association in its active functioning. He insisted upon the Government not to
increase the height of roads while in its re-laying and for the formation of
another Corporation comprising of all the left out fragmented local bodies
outside Chennai Corporation so that development works could be carried out,
integratedly.

Association followed by National Anthem, the function concluded.
