                          Press  Release-Request for desilting Sembakkam Lake

The Office Bearers of Sri Sarvamangala Nagar Residents’ Association, Chitlapakkam met Shri T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon. Minister for Animal Husbandry  and Shri K.N. Rmachandran, Hon. Member of Parliament,  Sriperumbudur  Constituency,  recently, to thank them for recommending in allotment of Rs.30 Lakhs from MPLAD Scheme for reconstruction of weir in the Sembakkam Lake.  After the work of reconstruction of weir was over, at present the Lake is brimming with water, a pleasant sight to be seen was informed to them. The Association further, requested for desilting the Sembakkam Lake and strengthening the bunds of the lake to increase the capacity of the Lake to hold more rain water without being wasted.  Further, it was requested to (1) introduce UGD for Chitlapakkam and other nearby local bodies to desist from letting drainage water by local bodies into the two water bodies namely Sembakkam and Chitlapakkam Lakes so that the ground water is not polluted, (2) to desist from dumping garbage in the Chitlapakkam Lake bed and to transfer the garbage already dumped (3) to desilt the Chitlapakkam Lake and also the water channels connecting the water bodies so that the rain water would not inundate the living areas during rainy seasons, (4) Supply of drinking water (Metro) through pipe lines in Chitlapakkam, (5) to stop Pallavaram Municipality from drawal of water from deep bore well in Sembakkam Lake bed continuously through lorries so as to save the water table in the area.

Hon. Minister and Hon. Member of Parliament promised that they would take up the matter to the concerned on all the Association’s demands for its early conceding. Hon. Minister appreciated the good work of the Association in putting up demands on several matters to the concerned, continuously.

Earlier, Sri Sarvamangala Nagar Residents’ Association requested the Secretary to Government, PWD, EE and AEE, PWD (WRD), Kancheepuram, that the reconstructed weir in Sembakkam Lake should be protected without being disturbed by the encroachers during rainy seasons, with the help of Police and Revenue Departments. The PWD Officials visited Sembakkam Lake recently, and took necessary action to protect the reconstructed weir as requested by the Association.
